Tired of Potter-mania?Then there is good news, dear Muggle. Author R.K. Mortenson -- who is also an ordained minister -- has created the Landon Snow series, Christian fantasy books that explain theological concepts such as sovereignty, grace and good and evil in a way that will appeal to young audiences.
Through storytelling and fantasy, Mortenson makes reading the Bible seem like an adventure worth pursuing. The author makes his theology clear in the books; he does not believe in evolution or accidents.
If you agree with the theology -- and even if you don't -- the books are an enchanting read. The hero discovers a secret passageway that eventually leads him to the magical kingdom of Wonderwood. During his adventures, he discovers his purpose: to get to know the Auctor (God). In Landon Snow and the Shadows of Malus Quidam, the second book in the series, the Odds -- elflike creatures -- are still against the young adventurer, and he is forced to rescue his sister.
The books are filled with puns, and Mortenson's sense of humor will appeal to adults, as well. (Come on, you know Harry Potter made it cool to read kids books). As far as the story is concerned, Book Two offers a developed, satisfying tale. Landon Snow isn't Harry Potter, but odds are, you'll enjoy the read.
