In The Wedding Caper : A Cozy Mystery by Janice A. Thompson,Warren and Annie Peterson are hard working, middle-class pillars of their community and parents of twin twenty something daughters, a teenage son, and a precocious dachshund. Both daughters announce consecutive weddings, tempering parental delight with financial concerns. When Warren arrives home with the money needed to cover wedding expenses, Annie suspects him of involvement in a recent burglary at the bank where he works.
Other suspects include: Nikki, the bank’s security guard and young single mother,
struggling to make ends meet; Richard Blevins, long-time employee of the bank, whose wife is dying of cancer, causing an enormous hospital bill; and Janetta Mullins, the mysterious victim with a jaded past, catering business owner from which the money was allegedly stolen after a night deposit. Annie and her side-kick, Sasha the dachshund, work together to exonerate Warren and catch the real thief.
The Wedding Caper is a charming, contemporary Christian novel with plenty of light humor mixed with family and friend interaction and just a pinch of mystery. Writing style is reminiscent of an effortless chat with a friend. Characters are somewhat fluffy, yet believable. Dialogue maintains the natural flow of conversation and enhances plot advances. Mood and atmosphere coherently portray small town, middle-class America. Thompson exudes a sense of warmth and
understanding of the joys and pitfalls of motherhood. She gently and consistently draws the reader back to the need to trust in God for all of our family concerns. Thompson has written eleven novels, coordinated a number of weddings, including those of her two daughters, and enjoys incorporating her real, live dachshund in many of her adventures.
