Uhrichsville, OH - Amish country, modern times. Naomi Fisher promises her mother, on her deathbed, she would always take care of her brothers and sisters, and help her father in the family store. As they are Amish, they have no car and drive a horse and buggy If they need to go to the hospital or doctor, they have to rely on one of their English neighbors to help. No matter how hard Naomi works, it is never good enough for her father, Abraham. When Naomi’s youngest brother, Zach was taken, this took her close to the edge and she runs away with her English fried Ginny, believing her family would be better off without her.

Abraham Fisher is grieving over his wife’s death. His plate is full. He expects obedience from his children. He demands the most from Naomi, and feels she is not holding up her end of the promise she gave to her mother. When his son, Zach is stolen, he blames Naomi, and he blames God.

The Fishers are trying to get on with their lives after the death of the mother. The father, Abraham is so immersed in his own grief, he does not realize his eldest daughter is not happy. Naomi, the eldest daughter does not see her father is grieving. As she can barely keep up with her daily chores both at home and at the store.

I enjoyed this book tremendously. I was impressed with the author’s knowledge of the Amish culture. It was interesting to realize no matter if you are Amish or English in the modern world, the problems both cultures have are the same.

I am anxiously waiting for the next book in this series to be released. You will not be disappointed in this new series from a wonderful author.
