Dave Earley’s attempt at focusing in on 21 of over 7,400 promises of God was an attempt to offer encouragement to readers. According to Earley, the 21 promises he selected share four characteristics: 1) most are conditional, 2) all are evident in the life of Bible character(s), 3) each is especially encouraging, and 4) all are universal.Earley’s format includes typically an introductory statement about the promise along with the scripture reading, a Bible story or example with focus on the encouragement, commentary about the promise and personal application. Among the promises Earley presents are God’s promise of sufficient grace, answered prayer, maturity through adversity, and spiritual revival.
