Serenity: Basket Case

Source Pop ThoughtA young teen learns about the difficulties of caring for newborn children, and in health club they only used eggs. In life, the subject is real. Serenity is from far from perfect family. And she is not perfect either. She is tested in life but also tests the patience of those who love her. Lessons about God and love and faith abound here. This is a manga work, in color, and in a style less extreme and far more accessible to American audiences. The writing is also very approachable, and while this is an “inspirational” genre, there is an amazing lack of preaching. Teaching through example seems to be the key here. The target audience is for girls from 9-16 and I think for that audience, depending upon that girl’s place in life, this would likely be a fun, thoughtful read. I, of course am not the target audience, but for what it is, I certainly did not dislike it.
