Watty Piper
"The Little Engine that Could" is one of the most popular and famous children's books of all time. It was published by Platt & Munk and has appeared in numerous editions, since its first printing in 1930. It was authored by Watty Piper, but Watty Piper never existed. The name was a house pseudonym for Platt and Munk and was used on numerous other children's books. The original author of this beloved children's story is still wrapped in mystery and speculation because the story stems from an early oral tradition. It is unclear where it first originated and who first wrote it down for future generations to enjoy.
