Russell H. Conwell

Russell H. ConwellRUSSELL CONWELL (1843-1925) was an atheist until he was severely wounded during the Civil War. He graduated from Albany Law School in 1865 and worked as a lawyer and traveling journalist until he became pastor of The Baptist Temple in Philadelphia in 1882. He also founded Temple College, which later became Temple University. Conwell wrote more than thirty inspirational books, but he is best remembered for the lecture he delivered at least 6,000 time nationwide, "Acres of Diamonds." Through his speech, he popularized the notion that hard work and godly living would and should result in wealth.
